David.....that makes perfect sense! I don't know why there is no reference to those ports in the manual? Having worked on many a Rochester Quads and Holleys....I just never left unused ports open. Oh well....nice to learn new things. As far as draining the fuel bowl, thats the mystery. I drained the gas into a glass container and really didn't see anything. Not sure why the bike started running fine after that.
Thanks for the advice on the filter. As you said, the petcock is nothing more than a filter in itself so I shouldn't worry about much debris coming thru. Everything I read said that it was nothing more than a mesh screen. Even in Clymer's, they recommend adding a filter. You're right. No need. Thanks! Just got back from riding and all is normal!!
